Exciting opportunity for an experienced stockperson to join a mixed upland farming and sporting estate in the North York Moors. The role will predominantly involve taking responsibility for a 60 strong herd of Belted Galloways and 100 Romney ewes. The ideal candidate would also be able to assist the Head Keeper with day-to-day tasks, particularly at peak times, ensuring that both elements of the farm remain aligned.
The farm is located in the picturesque North Yorkshire Moors National Park, East of the village of Boltby. In addition to the farming enterprise the owners operate a successful pheasant and partridge shoot, and over the past couple of years have built up a Belted Galloway herd that are pasture raised with the aim of producing high quality, high welfare beef.
The role would ideally suit a full-time person however a part-time position will also be considered. The role will be varied, with the expectation to complete tasks such as:
• Hands-on, day-to-day management of the herd• Assisting with calving, the breeding programme and general herd management• Grassland management • Upholding high welfare and standards within the herd • Tractor and telehandler operation• Knowledge and experience of grassland operations• Assisting with the management and care of game birds • Assisting on shoot days where required to support thesmooth running of the day• Operating and maintaining relevant farm machinery safely and effectively
Requirements:
• Full UK driving licence• Essential: previous livestock experience• Desirable: gamekeeping experience, although a genuine interest, willingness to learn and strong work ethic are just as valuable
