Location: Cumbria, near Kirkoswold Position Type: Flexible part time or full time (min 20 hours week with flexibility for more hoiurs during busy periods), Live-in role. Start Date: Beginning of July 2026 Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience

About the Role We are seeking a hardworking, down-to-earth, and highly capable Housekeeper to manage the day-to-day running of a magnificent, recently refurbished Grade 1 listed property.

The estate experiences its busiest periods around the grouse and lowground shooting seasons, but the owners will be frequently in residence throughout the rest of the year. This role requires a proactive individual who takes immense pride in their work and can maintain the exceptional standards befitting a property of this historic calibre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meticulous Housekeeping: Perform all day-to-day cleaning, tidying, and household management duties to an impeccable standard.
  • Property Management: Ensure the smooth daily running of the property, keeping it fully prepared and welcoming for the owners' frequent visits.
  • Team Coordination: Act as the central point of contact to run, coordinate, and oversee larger teams of external contractors and seasonal staff during peak estate seasons.
  • Adaptable Operations: Seamlessly transition between working independently (or within a small core team) during quieter periods and managing bustling household operations during the shooting seasons.
  • Cooking and meal preparation: The applicant will be required to prepare basic meals for the owners when in residence.

About You

  • You are grounded, hardworking, and take a practical, hands-on approach to your work.
  • You are highly trustworthy and comfortable working under your own initiative.
  • You possess excellent organizational and communication skills, allowing you to confidently manage contractors and direct seasonal staff when required.
  • You have previous experience in a similar high-end private household or hospitality environment (experience with historic or listed properties is a distinct advantage).
  • You are flexible and adaptable to the fluctuating occupancy and demands of a working country estate.

The Package

  • Salary: Commensurate with experience.
  • Accommodation: This is a live-in role. Excellent accommodation is provided in a property immediately adjacent to the main house.
