Wester Ross – Couple with experience and good references to take up positions as caretaker/handyman/housekeeper/cleaners on a family-owned estate in a most beautiful part of the Highlands.
The Estate extends to c. 4000+ acres, 1200 acres being woodland. There are two properties on the Estate, including the main Lodge, which are let out as holiday lets and two other smaller properties for occasional family guests’ use, as well as the staff cottage.
The successful caretaker/handyman/cleaner candidate will be full-time, five days a week and six days when the family are in residence, and will be responsible for all day-to-day operational aspects of running the Estate, taking primary responsibility for cleaning and preparing the properties between lets and family stays, ordering linen, welcoming the tenants, providing support during stays, maintaining the properties, liaising with contractors, carrying out fire safety checks and looking after the easy-to-maintain gardens and land. Handyman skills and enthusiasm for dealing with the outdoor aspects of estate maintenance (paths, fences, logging and basic chainsaw work in woodlands) are essential and equipment maintenance skills would be an advantage. Enthusiasm for assisting with the deer cull and fishing would also be an advantage.
The role of housekeeper/cleaner (part-time) would be to assist in cleaning the properties between lets and in welcoming tenants, receiving deliveries and giving access for estate maintenance, etc., and generally assist the caretaker/handyman/cleaner with their duties as required. There may be an opportunity to do kitchen and other work for tenants, depending on skills.
Both candidates would undertake driving duties to and from the airport and stations for the family and their friends and will have full licences. Weekend working will be regularly required, particularly at holiday times, changeover day being Saturday and occasionally Sunday. The family are not in residence on the Estate but visit regularly.
As the only employees on the Estate, the roles require a “self-starter” approach with a willingness to take responsibility and excellent interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with tenants, the owners who manage the Estate, family and friends and the public who access the Estate.
Bright and spacious two-bedroom cottage accommodation comes with the job.
Salaries according to experience.
