Job Description

We are looking for a River Keeper to undertake maintenance along a stretch of the River Dove and River Manifold which form part of the Okeover Estate, situated on the southern edge of the Peak District. This is a great opportunity for flexible, part time work for a trustworthy individual who has a genuine interest in protecting the natural environment and river water quality.

The role is for up to 40 hours per month with no fixed timings provided that the applicant can be flexible to take advantage of good working conditions when they arise and for regular invasive species control duties. The applicant must be confident to work independently and manage their own workload whilst also liaising with other stakeholders as and when required. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required for this practical role in the outdoor environment.

The role will include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Timber bench & style repairs
  • Fishing access maintenance
  • Maintenance of sawmill building internally and externally
  • Litter picking
  • Strimming, mowing and pruning
  • Invasive species control for vermin and plants
  • Liaison with other local stakeholders
  • Drafting of Bi-annual Newsletter for Fishing Club (preferred)

Applicants should have:

· Clean UK Drivers Licence

· Shotgun Licence

· No wildlife crime convictions

· References available

· Experience of practical work in the outdoors

· Reasonable physical fitness

· Further certification e.g. chainsaw and a willingness to apply for other relevant licenses is advantageous.

Terms

Pay: £13.50 hourly rate

Equipment: Strimmer and mower are provided by the Estate and provision of other equipment to be discussed with the applicant

Hours: up to 40 per month on flexitime basis

Work Location: DE6 2DE and surrounding area, predominantly between Ilam and Mapleton
