Camusrory is one of the wildest and most remote places in Britain. Situated at the head of a sea-loch on the West Coast of Scotland, it is 10 miles away from the nearest road; it has three Monroes on the property and is accessible only by boat from Mallaig. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, hard-working and responsible stalker, who is willing to learn new skills and live in a remote location, to join the small team on a full-time basis, reporting to the Estate Manager.
The job is as unique as the location. The Estate is family-owned, and we maintain all our own infrastructure such as power generation, buildings and roads, and the staff need to be able to bring boats in and out of Mallaig, manage the stalking and environmental requirements on 3,300 ha, and help inside the Lodge. Between stags and hinds the annual cull is around 60 red deer. We have a large fleet of boats, ranging from a 22m expedition yacht, through to a 10m RIB and a Cheetah workboat, as well as some smaller boats. We also have a variety of equipment including ATV’s, a telehandler and earth-moving equipment.
The range of skills required is unusually wide, and it is unlikely that anyone coming into this role will have all the required knowledge at the start, but we have a commitment to training to high professional standards, be it on safety, operating and maintaining heavy equipment, handling boats, servicing generators or deer control. The successful candidate is likely to have had at least 3 years experience as a stalker, larder management, will be qualified to DSC-2 level, and have a current firearms certificate.
This job is hard physical work, living year-round in a wild and isolated location. The successful candidate will be physically fit and strong and be capable of stalking around Monroes in all conditions.
Salary commensurate with experience and skills. Comfortable accommodation provided.
