Job Description
Carphin Farm is located in a beautiful part of Northeast Fife near the rural village of Luthrie. The 360 acre farm is adopting a regenerative farming system - working with nature to protect and improve soil health and habitat biodiversity. It currently consists of commercial and native woodlands, and small herds of Belted Galloway cattle and Tamworth pigs.
At Carphin Farm, we manage our deer population as part of the broader approach to land and conservation management, selectively and sustainably culling through the year. As the deer management practice has become a key part of life at Carphin, we are making steps to develop a farm to fork business, using our own wild roe venison initially.
We now have an exciting role available for an individual who would like to develop butchery experience, as well as get involved in other areas of farm operation. The butchery training would be supervised by an experienced venison butcher and will also include learning to package, label and store different cuts of meat. There may be scope to work with other animals as the project progresses. As deer culling is seasonal, this part of the role would be part time. Other duties would include anything involved in regenerative farm management, including:
● Implementing crop diversity
● Rotational animal grazing
● Stock management
● Tree and shrub planting and maintenance
● Potential deerstalking training
We believe this is a great role with excellent potential for growth. A strong interest in food or and/or animals is essential, especially sustainability within food production. A willingness to learn and grow within a small team is also vital.
