Vacancy in Belgium
Region: close to Namur (French-speaking part of Belgium)
· Shooting rights,
· tasks:
o predator control (priority)
o feeding
o maintenance high seats
o maintenance of open tracks/areas in woodland for birds
o some forestry maintenance
o participate in decisions about game crops
· Terrain:
o Domain area: over 1000 acres in one block, of which
· 63% farmed agricultural land and meadows, all either regeneratively or organically farmed with several small woodland areas (1ha or less), many hedgerows (over 10 miles), production of strawberies, asparagus, cherries, and tomatoes as well as cereals and legumes
· 37% woodland (small and larger single blocks),
· There are two orchards
· A river flows in the estate
o lot of habitat management already in place (strips, bushes, some hedgerows, fields dedicated to wildflife with flower or other mixes, high seats)
o shooting grounds in our hands for decades at the core, but recently increased to control a whole valley.
· game entirely wild for many years: hares, pheasant, rabbits and formerly grey partridges; reintroduction of partridges is considered. Many other farmland birds are present. Large mammals, either stalked or silent drives:
o roe deer
o wild boars
· housing can be provided or helped with
· equipment
o 4WD and trailers to transport equipment will be provided
o traps: existing sets and can be complemented as necessary
· Qualities required:
o Passion for wild game management, including predator control
o Team spirit (with the rest of the estate (agricultural, wine and forestry))
o Willingness to integrate in a
non english language country.
