HILL SHEPHERD / GAMEKEEPER

Tulchan Sporting Estates are in Advie, Nr Grantown on Spey

Purpose

To manage the hill flock and ensure they are an effective tick mop alongside general hill keeper duties.

Main Responsibilities

Full responsibility for the management of the hill flock to include:

· Ensure sufficient food is provided at all times to maintain a healthy and productive flock

· Strict treatment regime to ensure the flock act as an effective tick mop

· Hefting & six weekly gathers

· Manage shearing, liaising with external contractors as required

· Management of winter grazing & feed regime to maximise health & productivity of the flock come the spring

· Lambing

· Assist in vermin control across the hill

· Assist in gritting regime across the hill

· Assist in running beating lines on shoot days, both grouse & pheasant

Required Skills

· Self-starter & strong work ethic

· Experience of running a flock single handed

· Ability to work within a wider team

· Strong communication skills

· Logical approach to work

· Clean & tidy approach to work, whether machinery, equipment or environment

· Strong dog skills

Must Have

· Good team of working dogs

· Driving licence and ability to drive a tractor

· Gun licence
