Estate Maintenance Role (Grass Parks, Property & Woodlands) - Charterhall Estate

The Job:

  • The job is varied and involves estate maintenance duties working both indoors and outdoors
  • The role involves working in close communication with the Estate Administrator & supporting the wider estate maintenance team who similarly will support the successful candidate in this job
  • The successful applicant will have the right personal attributes

Personal Attributes:

  • We are seeking an honest, organised, tidy-minded and proactive team member for a hands-on and mainly outdoor job description
  • A deep rooted interest & knowledge of the countryside
  • Essential is a broad traditional estate skillset covering property repairs, operating agricultural machinery/ground-care equipment and good communication skills.
  • You will be expected to liaise with the Estate Administrator and also manage your day-to-day duties including property and grounds maintenance operations. You should have a passion for the outdoors that will contribute to the estate team’s objective of delivering an excellent estate environment for those who live and work in the locality
  • The role works very closely with the Estate Administrator and reports directly to the estate manager/owners and will involve providing duty cover
  • The estate is committed to helping its employees to improve their skills with relevant training.

Essential Experience/Qualifications

Full Drivers Licence valid in the UK

Grass cutting

Tractor Driving + Trailer

Understanding of central heating systems & other household services

Experience that is Advantageous but Not Essential

ATV driving

Biomass Heating Systems

Building Work



Forwarder Forestry Driving & Timber Handling

Electrical Work

Hedge/Tree Planting

Horse Handling

Telehandler Operations

JCB/360 Excavator Operations

Joinery Work

Lorry Licence - up to 7.5 tonnes



Property Drain-downs/Inspections/Inventories

Sheep Handling

Spraying (PA1, PA6)


Team Leading/Working

Trapping e.g. Squirrel/mouse trapping

Trough & water connections maintenance (Scottish Water - Water ground worker course)

Transportation of Livestock

Tree climbing

Vehicle Maintenance

Vermin control mice, moles, rats & wasps

About Charterhall:

  • Charterhall is a privately owned country estate in-between Coldstream, Duns, Greenlaw and Swinton and only 17 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed.
  • The estate lets out a number of residential properties and some agricultural/industrial units. The estate is committed to improving the standard of its properties giving customers homes that are comfortable, safe and demonstrably above the legally accepted minimum tolerable standard.
  • The estate has three biomass district heating schemes serving 20 properties. The biomass schemes work in tandem with the estate’s woodlands which are managed both in-hand and with contractors.
  • The estate has a small number of horses and sheep but is predominantly an arable estate; with day-to-day arable field operations being undertaken by specialist contractors.
  • The estate operates a family shoot and a grey partridge conservation project.
  • Day-to-day estate management is by the estate owners supported by the estate office team.
