JOB DESCRIPTION

JAHAMA Highland Estates is an innovative, multi-enterprise rural business covering 114,000 acres of the Scottish Highlands. We are part of the GFG Alliance, a global industrial conglomerate. We are currently recruiting for a permanent Estate Farm Worker to join our well-established team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role. Flexibility, dedication and a modern approach to farm management will be key attributes.

The farm is split up into two main holdings Inverlair at Roy Bridge and Glenshero at Laggan. We have 500 cheviot ewes and winter roughly 150 ewe lambs. The successful candidate will assist our Farm Manager with day to day running of both farms. Going forward we are looking to improve our sheep flock and expand with a cattle herd. All weather lambs are sold as store lambs and excess ewe lambs are sold for breeding.

JOB PURPOSE

Based in Inverlair and Glenshero and reporting to the Farm Manager, the Farm Worker will be involved with all aspects of stock welfare, maintenance and environmental management.

JAHAMA Highland Estates operates in an iconic landscape popular with visitors from around the world and for local recreation. We support responsible access, and positive visitor engagement is an important task for all our staff. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a public-facing environment and acting as an ambassador for the Estate.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stock handling, feeding and medicating
  • Basic tractor work (putting out bales, harrowing etc)
  • Working alongside the wider team in carrying out maintenance tasks, such as fencing, bridges, drainage systems, tracks, vehicles and weed spraying
  • Participating in environmental work such as pest control
  • Support the Farm Manager with the hospitality of guests

Accommodation available, one bedroom in shared Bothy. Utilities, council tax and broadband covered.

Requirements

Skills, Experience and Knowledge

  • Previous experience of farm work, being able to identify and resolve issues
  • Ability to work independently on own initiative and as part of a team
  • A good level of fitness and aptitude for working in challenging terrain and weather conditions.
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Access to working dogs
  • Flexible team player keen to seek positive solutions; adaptable, committed and enjoys a challenge.
  • Ability to act with discretion at all times and fulfil the role of an Estate ambassador.

Qualifications

  • ATV sit astride and sit in certificates
  • Tractor

Desirable

  • Qualifications - Chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting; off-road driving; telehandler operation; pesticide spraying
  • Sheep shearing experience
