Part-Time Gamekeeper - Ref 1170

Romsey, Hampshire,

Part-Time Gamekeeper Mount Farm, Lockerley, Awbridge, Romsey, Hampshire, SO51 0GR

A vacancy has arisen for a remunerated part-time Keeper. There is no house and all shoot vehicles are SORN and therefore confined to the Estate. Remuneration to be by agreement on a season-by-season renewal basis.

Basic Tasks Required of the Part-Time Gamekeeper

Feeding of pheasants is via galvanised bins on tripod legs and with clamp-tight sealed lids. Broadcasting of wheat is not recommended after September as the clay soil quickly becomes sodden as soon as the first rain of the winter arrives.

Regular dogging-in is required to encourage birds to remain on the Estate.

Regular control of foxes is required to augment the efforts of the Stalker.

In the close season maintenance of pens and similar tasks are required to augment the efforts of Syndicate Members on work days. There are elevated water tanks at each pen and these need to be cleaned and filled and drinkers checked and cleaned prior to arrival of the birds. Electric Fences also need to be set.

On Syndicate shoot days the Keeper shall organise attendance and run the Beating Line and place the Pickers-up.

The successful applicant will be required to have:

(1) A valid and clean UK Driving Licence,

(2) FAC and rifle suitable for fox control,

(3) BASC insurance or game keeper's equivalent,

(4) Trained gun dog.
